Where can i help?
Here I have compiled a list of the areas where I can help with my experience. These are also the topics that I am passionate about myself – and that can make the difference between a good and a very good company!
Fast, pragmatic and above all practical support in any communication crisis is one of my core competences. No theory, but ‘hands on’. Whether as an extended workbench, sparring partner or for strategic issues – around the clock. Because crises have no regular working hours … and in every crisis lies an opportunity!
The concept of strategic communication raises many questions that need to be answered: Who are my key audiences and why? Which messages are particularly important and, above all, for whom and when? Which of my business services do I particularly want to highlight and who am I targeting with this information?
Simple questions at first glance. The answers can be used to create a well-structured strategic communication plan that will help in many areas: in marketing as well as in internal communication. Here I can help develop a communication strategy in a very pragmatic way and implement the building blocks.
Internal communication is an often-used buzzword. But how do you make communication work? How do you avoid the usual ‘corporate bullshit’ that nobody really cares about and nobody believes in…
This is where I draw heavily on my experience and a deep aversion to ticking off actions that don’t lead to anything. Successful internal communication is not an atomic science, but a pragmatic craft based on common sense. Sounds simple – and it is. If you do it the right way.
Support for managers and leaders. It’s not just in crises that everyone looks up: what does the boss say and do? But how do you handle this as a manager without bending over and being who you are? I have worked well with my managers for many years and have also led many teams myself as a middle manager. I am therefore well placed to support managers and leaders with great respect for their tasks and responsibilities. All this in a close and trusting dialogue – with clear loyalty.
Communication work in large projects is a special chapter, not least when it comes to change. Checklists from management consultancies are not very helpful here, as they do not create any real benefit. What helps are targeted actions, precise measurements of success and permanent adjustments to the situation. Just like in real life. And: less is often more! My expertise is the development and implementation of a realistic communication plan and its permanent adaptation to the circumstances.
Mentoring: I know what its like to work in a sandwich as head of communications. On the one side, your boss, the CEO, the Board and the Pope… and on the other side, your team, the employees, the media and common sense… Thats why I can be a good mentor, a lightning rod, an advisor or a sparring partner – whatever is needed. I know by experience what I am talking about and where professional life can be challenging. I often would have needed a good mentor myself!
Board Communication: I strongly believe that communication is an essential part of being a board member. This includes the communication within the board, the communication between board and CEO/Management Team – but also the communication between Board and employees. Board members – and especially the chairs – need also to know what to do in a crisis situation and how to support the CEO and the management team.
I work at my best when I can work directly with the people on the ground. Unfiltered, honest, direct and always respectful. Work needs to be done when it needs to be done – and long contracts don’t help anyone. I prefer to work on projects with clear boundaries – and invoicing on fair terms and with a high degree of transparency.
